Stylists Recommend Learning More Than One Hair Extension Method

As we scroll the pages of our favorite social media, the most popular hair extensions today are beaded rows. Beaded rows consist of placing beads on the head and sewing wefts, aka, tracks of hair extensions around the wefts. There is certainly a specific customer for this method.

1) Medium to thick density hair

2) Client without hair loss due to Alopecia, Trichotillomania, or genetic hair thinning.

3). Not having an overly sensitive scalp

4). Curly/dense hair follicles

Social media plays a huge role in which extension methods are considered the best, but if your hair is thin, fragile, or you have a hair loss condition, the stress and weight of beaded rows will further complicate your hair issues.

This is why it is imperative for stylists to learn more than one method, and not to rely on trends. A few years back "tape hair extensions" were all the rage until the beaded sew-in method emerged. As an extension expert for over 25 years, I strongly urge my fellow extension experts to learn other methods of extensions based on their clients' individual hair needs. There is a place for all types of hair extensions in our industry! Also, consider using a "hybrid" technique which is mixing a few methods of hair extension on one client. Ex., I use our Pull-Thru method in the back area of the head, where hair follicles are dense, and then apply individual strands at the crowns and sides of the head for sparse areas.

It is important to consult with your client regarding their lifestyle, wearing their hair up for work, helmets, etc. Many types of hair extensions do not allow for the client to wear their hair up or may cause undue stress on the hair follicles. You need to understand your clients' work and limitations before suggesting which method of hair extensions will gel with their lifestyle.

In the case of Veila Pull-Thru hair extensions, you have the ability to customize the extensions, by cutting them into smaller sections without compromising the integrity of the hair extension. It is possible to cut back the panels as small as 3/4 of an inch. The smaller panels are often used on the sides, nape, and crown of the head.

Learning proper sectioning, and clean application (to avoid hair cross-overs) is essential to avoid follicular damage, hair loss, and pain. One strand of hair improperly placed in the hair extensions can add enough pressure to cause a headache and pull out the hair. This is why training is paramount!

I often use individual strands of hair extensions; either applied with a micro-bead or keratin adhesive to avoid stress on natural hair. These extensions should be affixed 1/4" away from the scalp, in perfect sections and you will find that your client can wear their hair up without pain and the extensions will be undetectable.

To be clear, hair extensions are not one-size-fits-all, but every method has a place in our industry. As a boutique brand, we can address our salon/stylists' individual questions and help to determine which extensions will work best.

Our Mission

Veila hair extensions were created to avoid damage to the wearers' natural hair, and the past 3 years have proven they work! They may be your "go-to" hair extension method, but be sure to embrace all methods available to you. We pride ourselves in carrying virgin (one-donor) hair that is meant to last and be re-applied, with proper in-salon and at-home care.

Our method is constantly evolving, as does the beauty industry, and we welcome advice from our professional stylists. We only sell to licensed professionals which avoids improper application and the price paid by a licensed stylist is protected. Sure, we could sell to the public, but we want to keep our brand "special!"

We encourage professional beauty insiders to reach out and try our brand. Zoom training and in-person training are available. We also share a training video with over 2 hours of knowledge on hair quality, application, and tips and tricks.

In closing, we are here for those who are looking for a method that does not involve tape, glue, or sewing! We seek professionals that are open-minded and willing to keep their clients' hair healthy. The most rewarding client is one with damaged hair that has been transformed with the pull-thru method that eventually does not need hair extensions at all. We do not want to damage hair and keep our clients "married" to hair extensions, it is simply unethical.
